AFSA HEADQUARTERS HAPPENINGS:

AFSA BRIEFS AT OSI SENIOR NCO PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT SEMINAR

By invitation from the Office of Special Investigations’ (OSI) Command Chief, AFSA’s Director of Military and Government Relations briefed issues on the Legislative Platform to 90 OSI personnel during their meeting at Lackland AFB (Joint Base San Antonio), Texas this week.

This was a great opportunity to share with them the status and impact of current legislation.  AFSA also provided them with updates on “must-have” enlisted quality of life and standard of living benefits.  These are our general focus groups:

  • Prevent (or minimize) TRICARE enrollment fee increases
  • Reduce Guard and Reserve Retirement age (from 60 to 55)
  • Support Concurrent Receipt of Retirement and Disability Pay
  • Ensure technical corrections to the Post-9/11 GI Bill
  • Promote Enhancements to Exceptional Family Member Program / Respite Care / Child Development Centers

AFSA CELEBRATES THE AIR FORCES BIRTHDAY WITH THE DEFENSE LOGISTICS AGENCY

Recently, AFSA and Airman Memorial Museum (AMM) representatives had the opportunity to participate in ceremonies with the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) at Ft. Belvoir, Virginia; DLA celebrated the 63rd Birthday of the U.S. Air Force.

LEGISLATIVE UPDATES AND NEWS

CONGRESS IS BACK STARTING ON MONDAY!

The Senate will be taking action on the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) upon their return this next week.  With little time before this congress concludes, they must act quickly, then conference with the House, and then both the House and Senate vote on the NDAA.  If they do not do this prior to September 30th, we can look for congress to enact a continuing resolution authority (CRA) on the defense bill; this will be needed, so DoD can continue to operate at previous FY funding levels.
